‘I don’t think I will like it’

I have posted blogs on juicing before, but there has been even more interest in this recently so have decided to up date! I am often being asked on Twitter for help with this subject so hopefully this will do the trick.

I also find myself telling clients about Jason Vale and his recent DVD Super Juice Me which was filmed at his retreat in Portugal. He often holds global juice challenges and It’s well worth signing up on his website for regular news. If you fancy doing the full detox, he posts daily videos during these global detoxes to help you along. There is also now an app so everyone can find a way of connecting that suits them. Yesterday I was suggesting to a client that she tries Juicing. Especially the Ginger Shot to help with her respiratory system and general well-being. She receives my regular newsletters so was aware of the Juicing Phenomenon, but she said ….

‘I just don’t think I will like it’

Thankfully I always have plenty of supplies in the house and could pop across after her treatment to make her one. In fact I made two. A Ginger Shot and a morning juice that I love. She shared them with her also skeptical husband…and just look at the results!

I had a text from her this morning…. she had switched on the TV….and who was on there promoting Juicing? Jason Vale of course. One Juicer ordered and two very happy clients! So….The benefits of juicing? Its FRESH. It’s ORGANIC….Hopefully you will buy your goodies with Low HI …. according to Jason Vale…That’s ‘Low Human Intervention.’ Think packaging. Think Food Chain….. Think. This juice is not the high sugar carton juice you find in the supermarket. Your Juice will be packed with more of your 5 a day than you could ever imagine. If you make it very ‘green’ you will be upping your alkali foods.Although some people do not agree that certain foods can help with the pH of the body, it is felt by others that although your body naturally moves from alkali to acid during the day… it won’t balance itself if it is unhealthy to begin with. Many cancer sufferers try the Ph Diet as some believe that cancer cells cannot grow in an alkali body. There are reports for and against this, but if I was suffering I’d give it a go! If you eat processed foods, lots of meat and dairy and refined sugars, your body will find it hard to balance itself. Fed yourself with alkali foods…. this is a whole subject of its own, but generally the more green the vegetable the more alkali it is. Superfoods such as Broccoli, Wheatgrass, Spinach are all high alkali foods. As are lemons! It’s worth noting that when cooked spinach turns acidic…so juicing it is the best way!

I try to juice more vegetables than fruit, only using apples to sweeten the vegetables. I steer clear of oranges. Too acidic for me. While we are were on the subject of ‘Green’ things to juice… Wheatgrass… Hugely Powerful little grass. But you can’t juice it. You need a different, costly piece of equipment for the extraction…. you can add a tsp of powdered wheatgrass to any juice…or I have found Squeeze Juice Cafe who deliver FRESH pouches. Much easier and much cleaner in the kitchen too!

Although there are many great Juicing recipes in books, Apps and online, I’m often asked for my favourite one.

2 apples or pears, 2 inch of cucumber during the summer, a good chunk of broccoli, slice of lemon, about 1/2 inch of fresh ginger, a stick of celery, and a carrot. Squish a handful of spinach in the middle and you’re off! Mint can ring the changes too! If you need a more filling juice, add the whole amount after it’s juiced, to half a ripe avocado and/or a banana in the blender. Super Juice! This is a huge subject, so many things to share…like the subject of beetroot! Add a small Beetroot to a juice. Powerhouse of vitamins. expands the blood vessels, so great prior to exercise. Many Olympians drank Beetroot Juice! I always make a beetroot based juice for my husband before he plays golf. Apple, cucumber, beetroot, lemon ginger and now I have discovered fresh Turmeric from Abel And Cole! Another secret ingredient! What Juicer should you purchase? There are many to choose from but unless you are feeding hundreds of people every day I wouldn’t spend over £100.00 on one. You need one with a wide chute that is easy to clean. There is a new Phillips Juicer on the market called The Fusion ….. Mine is also a Phillips, it was purchased three years ago and is going strong. If you go too cheap it just wont take beetroot and will probably be a nightmare to clean. The new Fusion Juicer is quieter and even more robust.

Go Juice!
