That Dreaded Cold! In my view, there is never a ‘time’ for a cold. You can get them at any time of year, but more often we find ourselves more prone to them in the winter when resistance is lower.

This spring, I have seen more people than ever been knocked out completely by a ‘bug’. Anything from a small cold developing to a chest infection, or a cold progressing into full blown pneumonia. I have always been pretty safe from ‘bugs’ by working in my lovely ‘germ free annex, but this year I have been nearly three weeks with something attacking my system. Starting with a sore throat, then a ‘cold’ and nasal congestion that would give anyone a run for their money! (I have lost count of the number of boxes of tissues I have got through) I lost my taste and sense of smell for over a week which meant cooking was challenging, and as an Aromatherapist, blending oils for myself at that point was a little pointless.

I have always been a firm believer that a cold has to ‘come out’. No good blocking it off with Lemsips and Night Nurse…although these are useful as an emergency if there is something you need to get through, but the best thing I find is REST, fluids, vitamin C and essential oil infusions. The body will heal itself if you let it. The virus will be attacking cells in your body that are already dying…a bit like a hoovering system. A real clear out. The bi-product unfortunately is mucus. Lots of it! To help the body with this clearing process, REST is essential. One of my clients tried to ‘struggle through’ her cold….and ended up with pneumonia. Listen to your body. If you are tired …sleep. Struggling on is not an option. I found a great article by Dr Ben Kim that explains this in more detail.
