Autumn means a new juice regime

We can’t say that autumn isn’t here. The leaves are turning colour so fast now, one more day or so of cold weather and they will be forming a carpet on the ground. This is the time of year to reevaluate your self care programme and diet, and if, like me you like to eat with the seasons, this is the time soup making comes in to it’s own. But what about your juicing, do you change this?

In years gone by we couldn’t purchase cucumbers or tomatoes at Christmas. If you got celery to offer grandad with his stilton on Boxing Day you were lucky. We are now able to import all sorts  of foods at any time of year, but sometimes these cool vegetables aren’t what the body needs. We live in the UK where it is cold and damp. Eating a green salad with cooling cucumber just doesn’t seem right when it’s blowing a gale outside and the fire is lit.

Lets ground it a bit with some roots!

So what should we do? Soups for lunch, warming casseroles, and change what you put in your morning juice. Less of the cucumber and more of the ‘roots’. Parsnip makes a lovely addition to a basic juice recipe, adding some sweetness, while giving a creamy texture. At the same time you are getting vitamins C, K ,E and folic acid as well as  minerals including iron, calcium, manganese, and potassium. Pears and parsnips go well together. One of my favourite blends is pear, parsnip,

Don’t be confused by what to use.

All you seasoned juicers out there will know that you can play around with ‘recipes’ until you find ones you like. There are many books on the market, but the internet is such a quick and easy way to look around. Personally I’m a great fan of Jason Vale, and I now use a slow Retro Juicer, which I love, but there are many out there to choose from. Find the one that suits your pocket and lifestyle.

Another great winter juice is beetroot, apple, carrot, ginger and lime.

You’ll notice I always add ginger! It’s a great aid to the digestive system and helps support the immune system, so perfect for helping the body keep those colds at bay. You can find ginger in all supermarkets now, so no excuse!

So, have a think about your morning juicing. Change a few things. Think roots. Think grounding……
